Rayleen and I spent a beautiful week in and around Petaluma, a rural community, about an hour north of San Francisco and, with its chicken and dairy production, is considered the egg capital. It is a fun place to visit, with several eating and drinking places. We have visited including, but not limited to: Lagunitas, Brewsters, Hide-A-Way, and Buckhorn. We went to Copperfield Books and visited Point Reyes Station, passing Marin French Cheese Company on the way. In Point Reyes, the site of several film locations including The Fog, Village of the Damned, and Dr. Dolittle, we visited Tobys, a lovely book store, The Western bar (once visited by Prince Charles!) and then went to John Muir Woods. This place is so popular you need reservations, and it does not disappoint. Beautiful redwoods tower over John Muir Woods and great hikes are in abundance. We also went to Healdsburg in Sonoma county which rivals Napa in wine production. The town square of Healdsburg was the site of a Halloween celebration with interesting scarecrows around town. We finished off the week with a nice little hike near Sebastopol with our daughter, Kelsey, and her husband, Mark. Petaluma is a place we will return to soon.
